Success Stories -

My name is Steve Denton and my mother needs to find a home for her 1 year old Shih-Tzu poo, Corky - he is a male.  My mother who is 77, adopted Corky from a shelter in Georgia six months ago when she was visiting my sister.  She had just lost her cockapoddle of 15 years and she was missing the companionship.  Unfortunately, she forgot the amount of work that goes into a young dog - this dynamic has been combined with her needing to sell her home and move due to financial reasons.  The shelter is unable to take the dog back, and even if they did, Corky would be at-risk of being euthanized.

Corky is extremely friendly - great with children and very playful with other dogs.  Corky has done some destructive chewing, but that could easily be corrected by greater supervision.  Corky is housebroken, but occasionally has accidents - again this could be easily corrected by greater supervision.  My mother is not so great at this - she treats Corky the same way she treated her 15 year old cockapoo.  Corky is crate trained and up-to-date on all shots.  He loves going to the kennel because there are people there and he loves people.

We would take Corky, but we already have two dogs.  I was going to post on petfinder because that is where we got our latest addition, Maddie.  However, it is clear from reading their site that a rescue groups is a better way to go.  My mother can hold onto Corky until a good home is found.  Can your organization or another similar one help?  I have attached a photo of Corky.  By the way, my mother lives in Bethlehem, PA ( I live in western Massachusetts).  Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

CORKY UPDATE:

Corky found a new home yesterday.  He went to a woman in the Boston area who found him through your site.

Thanks for the help in finding Corky a new home.

Poodle Picture Mr. Tux ADOPTED!

Poodle [Mix]

Small Adult Male Dog Pet ID: A0996592

Mr. Tux A0996592 is a 3-year-old miniature Poodle with beautiful gray curls. He normally has WAY more hair than this, but unfortunately it had to be cut off due to matting. Expect a curly, lovable, shaggy dog to grow in a few months! He has a gorgeous curly tail! He weighs 18.7 pounds and stands only about a foot. He is absolutely adorable and LOVES attention. He was basically running over his pen mate to get at me!

This dog is in REAL DANGER of being killed since he has been at the shelter for longer than they normally keep dogs. Please give this dog the second chance he deserves

This dog is at the City of Los Angeles East Valley Shelter which is a very high volume shelter. The dogs usually don’t have very long from their available date until they are euthanized. The dogs in ISO have 0-1 days from their available date. To see photos of most of the dogs at the East Valley Shelter, please click here.

All dogs and cats, eight weeks of age or older, adopted from the City MUST be surgically sterilized prior to their release to their new owner/guardian.

If you want to adopt, please call or go to shelter immediately. If the doggy you want is no longer available, please go to the shelter anyway because sweet, wonderful dogs/puppies come in everyday: all needing a loving new home.

Hi PooMixRescue,

Just wanted to send you a note and let you know I just got home from the West Valley LA shelter and I adopted Mr. Tux!!!!!  He is such a sweet, lovable, laid back guy and I am so excited he is going to be part of our family.  If it was not for your website, my sister (in Maryland) would have never found him to tell me about him.  I live in LA and was thrilled to find him since it sounds like he did not have much time.  Thank you so much for all the work you do on poomixrescue.com!  The exciting news is you can mark him as adopted on your website!

I will write you in a few weeks and give you an update as to how is doing.

Thank you again,
Amy

Palmer & Gracie

PooMixRescue.com,

I just wanted to tell you all a little about my wonderful dog, Gracie.
Believe it or not, this happy-go-lucky girl is the same one pictured in less than happy circumstances under your "urgent dogs" icon.  We had been looking for a companion dog for Palmer, our other black labradoodle, who we adopted as a puppy and last fall we came across this dog on your website.  After much debate, we decided we would at least foster her and so I went to pick her up from a shelter in rural South Carolina.  Upon arriving at the shelter, I was told Gracie's story of hardship. The poor girl was the only one left from an obviously neglected/abused litter and would have been put to sleep the day before had I not called to say I would take her.  She came out with her head down and her tail between her legs, but was still as sweet as she could be. After an eventful journey home (turned out that Gracie was terrified of riding in cars and had to be sedated for the long ride), we arrived home and Gracie was still as timid as ever. Seeing her now, it's hard to even remember what she was like those first few weeks.  With the help of Palmer and the rest of her new family Gracie now holds her head up high, doesn't jump at strange noises, and even rides well in the car! She truly loves life and her tail is always wagging.  I hope her story can serve as a reminder to everyone not to overlook the urgent cases!

Sincerely,

Amanda

I wanted to share a picture with everyone of our newest babies that we have adopted since Easter weekend. They had all just got groomed. Our home is full with 5. They are all such a joy, They act like they grew up together they all have a tight bond. Ellie is doing great no more outbursts, I'm so thankful you gave me the confidence to continue working with her, and not letting my fear get the best of me. She is a very well behaved baby girl. Picture is of

Willow (black female labradoodle) 7 months old adopted from Columbus NE

Pepper (black male labradoodle) 16 months old adopted from Liberty Kansas

Ellie (white female Golden Doodle) 19 months. adopted from Chicago IL.

Our home is complete the little guy in the picture is our 10 year old Sergeant Major, he holds his own with all of them.

Thank you so much for all your support and wonderful website, without your website we would never have found them.

Hey, Jo. I just wanted to tell y'all "Thank You" for having a web-site like yours! I found Tripp on your site a few months ago & he is such a good little dog. I was kind of worried at first b/c I had never rescued a dog before & not knowing what to expect. When we got him he did have a little cyst that turned out to be nothing thank goodness but the more & more he comes out of his shell & gets comfortable with all of us here at home & outside I am so glad we 'rescued' him because he has 'rescued' us.......he makes us laugh and I have 7yo who has struggled with reading and he prefers to have Tripp sit with him and read than me.....

Again, thanks Paulina

I was fortunate enough to find a golden doodle in Buffalo , MN .  He was listed on the Poodle-Mix Rescue page as Diego on 10/21. I adopted him on 10/27. He was given his name when he was dropped off at the Adopt-A-Pet shelter. I re-named him Dexter since he wasn't used to his name yet. I traveled 2 ½ hours from Eau Claire , WI to Buffalo , MN to see him. He was filthy, full of mats, and weighed 38 pounds. My vet estimates that he should weigh 55 pounds. So at the very least, I know that he had gone without food for some time.  Regardless of whatever he may have gone through, he was the happiest dog ever. All he wanted to do was give affection and expected nothing in return. Now, he'll never have to worry about being dirty or hungry again; and he will always be loved. Here he is during the first night home after a bath and quick trim with my Labradoodle Gabe. The two of them have become best buds.

You should be proud of the work that you are doing. These dogs deserve a chance to have a good home. I had lost a 13 ½ year old cock-poo (Max) to cancer about three weeks prior to finding Dexter. He has really helped with the healing process.

Sincerely,

Jack

This is Kayle after rescue, just beautiful

and here she is before: She really is a beauty!!

Kayle's Story

Hi! I am so glad I found your website.  On November 4th, I drove from northeastern Pa. to Powhatan, Virginia to adopt Kayle who was posted with the Powhatan Sheriff's Dept of Animal Control.

She is a three-legged, 12 year old poodle mix that I fell in love with as soon as I saw her picture.  What a fantastic girl! She is so filled with trust and love that it showed on her face as soon as I saw her. She couldn't wait to jump into the car and begin her odyssey to Pennsylvania.

My dogs were great with her and she accepted them completely. I have other rescues, but never had someone with the charisma that this dog has.  She has no idea that she is has what we see as a disability, but she does suffer from hearing loss.  She hears Clancy, my yappy poodle, bark and can hear me whistle for her, she is now learning signs. I wrote back to the Sheriff's to tell them how blessed I feel that they allowed me to take her out of state, especially when they said their rescues couldn't place her.

Well, she has a place now to spend the rest of her life, thanks to your website.  My vet says, in spite of a bad UTI, she is in excellent health, but quipped that she needs reading glasses. I have a great vet.

If there were any way to get to the world and tell them how fantastic it is to adopt an older dog/disabled dog and earn their love and trust, maybe more would have a chance at a natural life. I lost three "unadoptable" dogs this year, but reveled in their lives and the time I got to spend with them.  All were rescued from pounds that cared; one had cancer when I took her and lived for three years, dying peacefully at home at age 16 or so. The other died of liver and kidney failure, was deaf when I got her and then lost most of her sight at age 18, after three and a half years with me.  The last was more heartbreaking. A brain damaged cocker spaniel puppy who was as close to autistic as a dog could be.  He died of a massive seizure taken while I was out, but waited for me to find him and hold him and take his last breath, his temp was so high I knew there was nothing that could be done to save him. He was only 9 mos old.

These are the ones that really deserve the chance to have a normal life. They come into a world expecting nothing and at least leave experiencing love at last.  Thanks for listening.

Anne

Hattie's Story

Hattie's journey began with a 100 mile trip - she had been dumped in the desert to fend for herself. Hatti is either a goldendoodle or a labradoodle and was rescued by the Poodle Club of Southern California Rescue.

After having to be put under 7 times for fox tail removal her spirit was not the least bit diminished.  [Thankfully our vet uses a very light form of anesthesia and Anson and I were able to be right there EVERY single step of the way.]  Once her medical challenges were met she went to live with a very dog savvy producer who takes her EVERY where with her.  AND I do mean every where.  Hattie has become a wonderful spokes dog in and around Hollywood.  I promise to update her link with fresh pictures and her very happy ending soon.
