Spitz is a two year old, 7 pound white maltese poodle mix. Spitz is a very sweet and playful boy. Since he had a rough start at life, he can be very shy at first. Spitz favorite thing to do is play, and play, and then play some more. Spitz needs a fenced in yard to play in with his favorite human and a good dog buddy. He is fine around cats. He would do much better with children over the age of 12, since he is shy and scared of sudden movements and loud noises. An experienced dog owner needs to adopt Spitz. He is not housebroken and it is going to take a lot of patience to get him housebroken. With love, compassion, and a lot of patience, he will make a great pet. The reason he was named Spitz is that he does the cutest thing when you hold him. He acts as if he is swimming, so he was named after Mark Spitz the Olympic Swimmer. Spitz is a very cute boy!

Maui is a very handsome Maltipoo that was rescued from a back yard breeder. He is approximately 7 months old. Maui gets along very well with cats and dogs and is very friendly with people. Very happy girl, although she just recently came into rescue because she had only one puppy (which was subsequently taken from her and put on another Momma...) and was quite heartbroken about it for a while. She's adjusted now and is best friends with Peek-A-Boo and they love to "lean" on each other and run around the house together. She's super sweet, loves attention, and gets along well with other dogs and cats. Penelope is onlyaround 7lbs. She's letting her foster Mom's daughters dress her up and run around in doll's clothes...so she's great with kids too. 6-29-08 Mandy is a 6-7 year old Maltese Poodle Mix. Mandy was about to be destroyed when one of our volunteers rescued her. Mandy was skin and bones and scared to death. Her hair was so matted you could not see her face. She weighed about 5 pounds and should weigh 12 pounds. A volunteer saw Mandy and decided to take her home to take care of her and get her ready for that 4-ever home. After a few weeks Mandy was gaining weight and was able to become spayed. However, Mandy was having bouts of diarrhea and vomiting. We all thought it was because of her really, really bad teeth. She was taken to the vet to get spayed and the vet realized she was already spayed. So, we decided to get her teeth done sooner than later, maybe that was causing the other symptoms she was having. They had to pull 8 teeth. When the foster mom got her back she was like a new puppy, eating, playing, etc..So we thought, great she will be ready in a few weeks. But the bouts of Diarrhea and vomiting continued. We tried everything we new to get her well. But as quick as these symptoms came they would disappear. Until after about 4 months with the foster mom, Mandy took a turn for the worse and had to be rushed to the animal hospital. The doctor suspected Addison's Disease. He did take one type of blood test and it was positive. But she needs to have another test to be 100% sure this is her problem. The cost of this test is $179.00. If this is positive, then we have to make a decision on what to do next. In most cases if dog has a disease the answer is to humanly put the dog to sleep, but in Mandy's case, the disease comes and goes. She is the most loving dog I have ever fostered. She loves people, babies, other dogs, cats, everybody. I so want her to have a chance. If that wasn't bad enough, Mandy is blind in one eye and will probably be blind in the other in a couple of years. She loves car rides, walks, stuffed animals and wants nothing more than to cuddle in your lap. She is also a great watch dog!!! The disease is treatable, however there is not a cure, but she can live a long life. Our organization is a non-for profit, no kill shelter. At times all we can do is supply the basic of medical needs. When you come across a wonderful animal like Mandy and the future looks grim, it breaks all of our hearts! So we ask the public to help us with Mandy's medical expenses, so just maybe that right person can see Mandy and realize, that is the dog I want to give that forever home, someone who will give Mandy their heart as Mandy will certainly give them hers. Clarence is an adorable mixed breed boy, about 3 years old. At best guess, he is a Maltese/Poodle mix. He has a fluffy white coat, floppy ears, and big brown doggy eyes. When Clarence was first rescued from Kentucky, his fur was terribly matted but he's since been groomed and looks like a million bucks! He is currently living in a foster home with other dogs and does just fine. He would prefer a home without small children though. Clarence s an all around great dog and would love the chance to prove it to YOU! Romeo is constantly wagging his tail and just loves everyone. He LOVES to go on walks and is a pretty darn good little walker. Of course it's a slow walk because if people don't stop to tell him how cute he is, he stops and waits for them to notice him (even if they're across the street). He hasn't had any accidents in the house or barked at all but he will whine a little if he's kenneled and you are home but he settles down pretty quickly. He is good with other dogs. He's mostly happy to sit by someone or be cuddled.
Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis.

Bianca is a sweet and adorable female Maltipoo puppy. She is approximately 7 months old. She loves to be held and brushed and enjoys playing with her brothers and sisters. Bianca gets along very well with the other dogs and cats in her foster home and will make a wonderful family companion! Bianca has just been spayed and will be ready for adoption as soon as she is all healed up. She is vaccinated and parasite free. More information and pictures will be available soon.
Questionnaires are reviewed when they come in. You should receive an acknowledgement of us receiving your questionnaire within 36 hours of your sending it. If you do not, please write to us at SPRadoptions@yahoogroups.com If your questionnaire is complete and if we feel we might have an animal that would be a good match for you we do reference checks. These can take anywhere from one day to one week to complete, depending on the volume of questionnaires we have received. A home visit is required prior to adoption. If you are not selected to adopt Bianca it is no reflection on you or your home. Our volunteers have years of experience and devotion to rescuing animals from puppy mills, back yard breeders, shelters, and abuse situations and must select the home best suited for each individual animal's specific needs.
Please be aware of the following:
-Applicants must be 21 years of age.
-The applicant must be the person or persons who will be responsible for the care of the animal. Pets do not make good gifts.
-In most cases we prefer adoptive homes to have another like sized canine companion for the adopted dog to play with and learn from.
-No homes with children under 5 years of age will be considered. We will not put our dog or your child in danger of being bitten.
-We do NOT ship our animals. You must be able to pick up the animal you adopt.
Healthy dogs up to 2 years of age: $300-$350
Healthy dogs between the ages of 2 and 6: $ 200-$300
Healthy dogs between the ages of 6 and 9: $150-$250
Geriatric or 'special needs' dogs: set on a case-by-case basis.

Exceptionally adorable boy! So cute he looks like a toy..... Clyde is about 8 years old and weighs 16 pounds. He is fluffy and fun and loves attention. He is housetrained and heart worm negative. UPDATE: 06/17/2008 Dexter had an approved home but that home did not contact us back after their home visit and send in their deposit to hold him. Dexter then came down with pneumonia and we spent several months trying to find an antibiotic to treat it as there are many different pneumonia bacterias. He is now much better and once again looking for his new home. Dexter is just a baby born 12/05/2007 . Dexter came from a MO breeder because he didn't sell. He is a maltese/poodle mix . He looks more like a poodle with his curly hair. Dexter is a beautiful blue/black and white color. He was 5.6 # at the vet this week. Dexter will make any family a great pet. He is a social butterfly and gets along with other dogs well. Dexter will need frequent trips to the vet for grooming. Hello, My name is CUDDLES
I am a 10 y/o Female Malti-Poo. I am approx. 15 lbs and a bit chubby and as cute as a button. I have been spayed and am current on all my shots.
My mommy got sick and cold not care for me as good as she had been doing because of her failing health. I am a sweet but shy girl but will warm up to you in time. Going into rescue was a bit of a shock for me but I am ok now. I have learned to get along with other dogs, use a doggie door and run and play with them. My house manners have slipped a bit, as I was accustom to going on a walk every morning. I won’t do my business if you just put me out, you have to stay outside with me or I’ll hold it till I get back inside. I had a minor surgery done on my back end because of an ingrown hair, but its fine now, just a little sore. The coloration on my back is due to me chewing because of a flea problem and we believe will turn back white in time as the hair grows. I do not like being in a crate and have some separation anxiety when left alone. I can get in trouble trying to get to a window to see where you went so they put me in a crate anyway for my own good they say. You see my mom took me everywhere she went for all my life and made me a go girl. One of my favorite places is on the back of your chair. I like to have my tummy rubbed and will sleep at your feet on the bed. Have you figured out that I am spoiled rotten yet? I need someone who will keep me as spoiled as I am and love me. Are you up to it? If so we need each other.

Cassie arrived on Fathers Day. She came from Indiana where her back leg seemed to be an issue with her getting a home. We got x-rays for her and they showed a luxating patella which should be as easy as an operation and she will then be made whole again. She is spayed, up to date on shots and heartworm negative. She is under 10 pounds. She likes other dogs and is housebroken. This dog is highly adoptable so at this point we are only taking applications so don't be disappointed if you don't hear back from us as quickly as you would like as a a surgery date hasn't even been set yet.

Tipsy is a wonder. He is a senior, and doesn't see or hear very well, but that doesn't slow him down. He can find a sofa and a lap with absolutely no trouble. Tipsy gets along well with other small dogs, however he is no match for an active puppy. Tipsy is housebroken and uses a doggie door. He is very loving and sweet and enjoys older children. Tipsy is not only gorgeous, he has a lot of love to give. He really enjoys napping in the sun so we would prefer that he go to a home with a fenced yard.

MoMo is 14 years old, and being Maltese, one would think he should be on the small side, but he does have some poodle in him, so he will be just a bit bigger weighing around 13 pounds , which is what his vet recommends. For now, he's a bit thin and needs to get back to a healthier weight.
For some reason his human family did not want him anymore and took him to a shelter, and that is when we got him so that we can help him find a great forever home.
MoMo is good with kids and cats, he is house trained, and just a great all ‘round kind of fella! He may be a bit hard of hearing, but that doesn't seem to affect him or hold him back from having a good time!
He loves to stay close to his foster mom and loves to be a lap blanket, so if anyone needs to have a sweet fella snuggle with them, consider this awesome, handsome guy called MoMo!
For now MoMo is temporarily staying in Clarksville, TN until that special family will take him in and give him the great forever home he so much deserves.

Hi my name is Opie. I am 2 years old and 16lbs. Let me tell you about myself. I am so sweet and affectionate with my family. I love a good nap in your lap, I love to give kisses. I love other dogs, I like to chase cats :-). I am house trained and crate trained. I do not do well with children, they move about so fast that it makes me crazy. I really need an all adult home. I do not do well with strangers coming to my house but I'm working on that. I need someone who is willing to keep training me. My training is not difficult I simply need to stay on a leash and seated until I'm comfortable with new people. Once everyone is settled and things are calm I'm ok. I am so funny. My favorite time of day is when everyone is done with their showers. I pull the towel down and roll and roll all over it. Every once in a while I get to sleep in the bed with my foster parents and I like that. My foster mom says I'm a bed hog but that's just because I like to sleep right next to someone. I am a very smart boy despite my overly blond appearance. I would do well with someone who has the time and patience to keep working with me so I can be a wonderful dog with everyone. SPECIAL NEEDs - I will need a special home because I have food allergies. All I need is special food and some medication so it's not really expensive or complicated. I eat Duck & Potato dog food that is available at the petstore and get a special oral steroid for my tummy. My steriod is $25 for a 90 day period. Anyone interested in our dogs will be required to fill out an adoption application which includes a home visit by one of our volunteers. For this reason we do not adopt to anyone living out of the DFW area. All our dogs will be spayed or neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations and heartworm free. Polo is two tears old and was surrendered to rescue as Maltese. He is much taller and a bit heavier than the Maltese so we feel there is another breed represented as well. On arrival to us he was very thin, weighing a bit over 12 pounds.His ideal weight should be 3-4 pounds more. He has been checked and treated for parasites, is negative for tick fever and valley fever. He has been neutered,had a dental, is vaccinated and has a microchip.
This is a charmer!! There is no time like the present to play, dance and cavort. He is active but not "hyper". In the previous home there was a six year old child, a cat and a large dog. They all got along well except for the large dog therefore we want a home with no dogs over 25#. Polo would be great in a home with kids over 6 years and with other small animals.
There is a grooming responsbility. Frequent brushing,and regular professional grooming is needed. Polo has gained some weight on a premium diet but could gain a bit more. He is crate trained and uses the dog door. As with any new pet he will need house training reinforcement in a new environment.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!!! And when you do, take a really good look at this beautiful six year old, Poodle/Maltese mix. What a sweetie, and really very, very pretty! Weighing in at about fifteen pounds, she IS a looker!! One thing you must know! She is a tiny, tiny bit chunky. Please don't blame her, it is NOT her fault. Her owners just didn't feed her properly, or just didn't care what she ate. She is on a mission now to slim down and get her adorable girlish figure back. Watch out folks, when she does shed those extra couple of pounds, she is gong to be a knock out!!! Not that she's not a beauty now, but she WILL be smashing looking. Not to mention feel better!!! She's such a sweetheart. This terrific little lady is just about as perfect as you will ever find. Hard to believe her owners would give her up and never look back. Unfortunately this happens all to often. She's absolutely, positively a lucky little buckarette. She was on a course that could have put her in a very, very dangerous position. Her owners brought her into their veterinarians office to have her put to sleep. Yep, they just didn't want her anymore. Thank goodness their vet talked them into allowing her to contact us to find this little baby doll a new home. What a great veterinarian she is!! She said she just could not put this fabulous little gal to sleep. She surely does think highly of little miss Mancini! That says a lot for this little pooch doesn't it!!! Sensitive to everything you say, she loves to please you and really tries very, very hard to do just that. Her personality is terrific, she loves everyone, big or little!! She is soooo very friendly, this doll baby never meets a stranger. She loves to go on nice car rides, and thoroughly loves nice long walks. If she doesn't have anyone to play with, she'll keep herself busy doing doggie things. Things like how long should she nap, what time should she go outside for a little stroll around the yard and what should she have for supper, Whew, such decisions! Well, she really won't mind a bit if you help make those ever sooo important decisions!! See, Mancini is a terrific go with the flo kinda gal. She does love to watch TV, loves to sit with you while you read your book, work your crossword puzzle with, or just sit back and do nothing. She's so content, just as long as she's by your side!! One of her very favorite things is to is to hop up into the zzzz locker and saw those logs all night long right there by your side!! Promises not to move a muscle, not to hog the pillow or the comforter. What a concession she is willing to make (tee hee hee)!!! First thing in the morning she's ready for her first cup of coffee and then off to conquer the world!! She is just the perfect pet! She's housebroken and trustworthy to be left home alone!! What more could anyone ever ask for??? And in return all she really wants is someone to just be best buds with forever and ever. This pretty baby is just about as classy as they come and has the best of manners. She has lots and lots to offer, and wants for nothing. Well, she does want one thing and that is to have a home with someone that will love her forever and take care of her for the rest of her life. She will surely take care of you and love you for the rest of her life and that is a promise right straight from her. What a wonderful companion this little lass will be. Yep, sounds like a pretty cool gal doesn't she? She is a really great little pooch, just waiting for her new folks to come pick her up, hug her, give her a few sweet little kisses, and drive her away to her new permanent home. Lexi is a black, spayed, 1 1/2 year old, 8 1/2 pound Malti-poo. She was born approximately on 4/29/06. She is just adorable! She does not shed and is just delightful, sweet and quiet. She is a lap dog who loves to cuddle with you. She is fearful of strangers but is sweet and lovable once she knows you. For this reason she should not be placed in a home with children under 12 years old. She has a poodle face and black hair. Her hair texture is Maltese. Her tight poodle hair is mixed with straight Maltese hair giving her the soft wavy hair. What a jewel this girl is! However, she was adopted to a single lady and we know know that Lexi has separation anxiety. She does not do well when left alone. Lexi needs to be adopted into a home where someone is home most of the time. This dog cannot be adopted out of state. Please see our home page for a list of our Saturday adoption sites. Cody'is 5 years old and his human mom passed away last year . He is now living with other family members. They feel terrible, though, because where he was pampered and adored, they live a life that is hectic and non-stop and feel that they are not giving him enough attention.
