More About Teddy - TXMy name is Teddy, I am a male bichon/mix born sometime in 2003. I was rescued from a kill shelter. My back legs were partially paralyzed. I had feeling in my legs, but couldn't stand. I spent a few weeks on cage rest and steroids,then, I had surgery to fix a herniated lumbar disk. A week after surgery, I was able to stand by myself and take a few wobbly steps. Since that time, I've made steady improvement. I still walk a little funny and look like a tipsy sailor from the back end. I can run if I hold my back legs together I LOVE to go for walks with my foster Dad and if I even hear the word “walk”, I'm standing by the door waiting to go. I am housetrained as long as somebody gets to the back door when I want to go out – I think I might do great with a doggy door and a fenced yard. I'm a very mild mannered guy and get along with all of the other dogs in my foster home. I have to sleep in my own bed at night since it wouldn't be good for me to jump up or down from the big bed. I love to be petted and sometimes will give a kiss – I don't do it often that way you think you are getting a gift from me when I do it. I'm probably a mix of bichon/poodle/beagle - my fur will be very curly and is a light brown with some highlights of white. Right now I'm cut pretty short, but some fur is growing in on my head and that is curly. I have very long ears and legs that are short and stocky with large paws. I weigh 27 lbs, but with the walking I've lost several pounds and getting a nice doggy shape. My tail is cut off very short. I will play a little with the other dogs and have some favorite toys. I think it would be best to be in a home with only adults. I like other dogs so it would be nice to have brothers or sisters in a forever home too. I watch the neighbor’s cat and will bark at it, but have not gotten close and personal with the cat. The cat does not stay in our yard for very long! I am being fostered in TX. Teddy is a small Poodle and Chihuahua mix that was surrendered to us for not being good around small children. This is not at all uncommon for small breed dogs. We are looking for an adult home for Teddy and one that is experienced in the small breeds would be ideal! He will requite the type of owner that is willing to allow him the time he needs to adjust to his new surroundings. Teddy does not do well in new situations or around new people. He will have potty accidents if left alone for too long. It would be a good idea to crate him when he needs to be left alone. He does know some basic commands and Teddy requires a lot of attention from his owners. He does well riding in the car and is still quite playful!

Max is a nine year old male Chi/Poo mix (at least that's my best guess) who has not had an easy life the last few years. His owner had to give him up because she couldn't really afford to take care of her dogs anymore. If you're looking for an even tempered dog who loves attention and is quiet and low maintenance, here's the dog for you! He is a little slow getting around, but he is getting stronger from eating high quality food and getting plenty of exercise by going out in the yard to play, and if kept on this regimen he will probably get stronger and move more quickly yet. Max is very well behaved and well housebroken, he goes outside to potty for me with no fuss, even in bad weather. He gets along fine with other dogs and is used to them. He was recently neutered, had his five way, rabies and bordetella vaccines, heartworm tested negative, fecal tested negative and wormed. If you would like to watch this old sweetheart blossom even more, his adoption fee is only $150 because he does need a dental yet (due to miscommunication this wasn't done) and you can email for an application or call if you have questions.

Snickers previous owner passed away and when we got Snickers we could not tell what he was. The mats were so thick that we couldnt find his feet or any other body part. His toe nails had grown through the mats and back into the pads of his feet. It took hours to shave away the 4 to 6 inch thick mats. Beneath the mats he was suffering from mange. He was in worse condition than anyone can imagine. Snickers was terrified and could barley walk. It is hard to understand how anyone with a heart could allow a dog to suffer and endure what he had. Snickers has since been fully vetted and is getting the love and care he so much deserves from his foster home. He is slowly blossoming. He has come so far but still needs a quiet household to continue his rehab. He still has a ways to go as far as trust. Please give Snickers a chance at a normal life. If you are interested in this dog and live in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, please fill out a non-binding application at http://www.allbreed.org.

This gorgeous little dog was the last in a litter at a puppy mill. Calvin will be a small to medium dog, about 14" tall and 18 - 22 pounds at maturity. He's 11 pounds now. As a poodle/cocker spaniel cross, Calvin could have characteristics of both breeds. His coat is loosely curly and non-shedding, like a poodle. His white coat has the beginnings of what will be buff-colored patches. He is very intelligent, as poodles tend to be. BREED INFORMATION: The American Cocker Spaniel is equally suited to life as a gundog or as a household pet. Cheerful, sweet, and sensitive, the Cocker Spaniel is respectful of its master's authority without much challenge. Merry and endearing. A happy tail-wagger. Gentle and trusting, with average intelligence. They are lively, playful, and devoted, but should be socialized well when they are young to avoid a tendency for shyness. Usually good with children. Cockers love everyone and need people to be happy. They are mostly easy to train and get along well with other animals. The Miniature Poodle is a cheerful, super smart, sensitive ,and highly trainable companion dog. The breed is great at learning tricks, and a favorite in the circus ring. The Poodle will feel slighted if it is left out of family activities. He is very amusing and clever. Many owners feel this dog understands speech in an uncanny way. This is a very good watchdog for its size, seldom becoming aggressive. Poodles are friendly with other dogs and non-canine pets. Extensive grooming is needed. They must be bathed regularly and clipped every six to eight weeks. Poodles shed little to no hair and are good for allergy sufferers. PLEASE RESEARCH ANY BREED OF DOG YOU MIGHT ADOPT! Calvin deserves to be an indoor dog and to live with a responsible and caring person or family. We require an approved adoption application and we normally ask potential adopters to visit once before the adoption is approved. We also reserve the right to make a home inspection. This delightful little man (he's about 12 lbs) is a joy to have around.
Tyger is around 10 years old and has a mature cataract in one eye which impairs his vision. It doesn't impair his inner vision though and he'll find you, his favorite person, wherever you are. He can see perfectly out of his other eye so the cataract does not slow him down.
Tyger is very well behaved, loves to walk on leash and he'll do anything to get a car ride. He especially likes girls but guys are okay in his book, too. He's a good little guard dog who will bark when strangers approach his door.
Tyger has one issue - He's a slooowww waker. Tyger does NOT like to be disturbed when he is at rest and he will snap if moved while he is sleeping. He is quite a great guy!

Meet Tipper! She is an 8 y.o. Cockapoo. She is a great dog! She is completely housetrained, good with other dogs, and gets along with everyone she meets. She LOVES going on walks and walks very well on the leash. She is content to just be near her person. Oh, and she also rides very well in the car and enjoys looking out the window.
Tipper is very playful at times as usually brings visitors a toy when they come over. She's the official "welcome wagon chairman...errr doggie". Tipper is excellent with cats. She lets them knead on her, climb on her, and cuddle. She likes to groom them if they allow it.
Tipper came to us when her owner went into a cancer care facility and could no longer care for her. She really is a dream to walk and will help get someone else walking too :o). If you need a walking partner Tipper is your girl!
UPDATE: Tipper has lost 12 lbs. since coming to us. She's been with us since January 2007 and really needs to find her forever home. She now weighs 43 lbs and her goal is around 35 lbs. So she's not too far from it.

Each dog is tested on arrival for Lymes, Heartworm, and Ehrlichia.
LCR provides all required vaccinations, de-worming, microchipping.
Dogs are started on flea protection and started on heartworm preventative provided they've tested negative, and groomed when desperately needed and resources allow.

HI, my name is CoCo! I am a 5-year old sweet male Cockapoo who is very gentle in nature. I am both crate-trained and house-trained. I weigh about 27 pounds and am full-grown.
I have a quiet disposition and like to just sit around the house with my family. I also love to go for walks. I am easy on a leash, no pulling or dragging from me! I enjoy riding in a car, too.
I think I would be fine with other dogs in a household, but no cats! I don't mean any harm, but I just cannot control my need to chase them.
In my previous home, I had an incident with a small child and I nipped him, (not sure about what really happened) so I think an adult-only home is the best fit for me.
My foster Mom thinks I look like a baby sheep or a stuffed animal! My hair is very soft and curly. Because I am part Poodle, I do not shed. I would do well with anyone with allergies. Please come and meet me and let's see if we're a match!
I am fully vetted -- neutered, heartworm negative, and current on my vaccinations and deworming. My adoption fee is $150 (cash only, please).

Trixie was found wandering about by herself before she came to us and got all cleaned up. Trixie loves attention. She probably would do best in a home without any dogs so she can get the attention she needs. She is shy at first but once she learns to trust she is the sweetest dog. She loves belly rubs and really just wants to please. She is curious with cats but would not harm them. She will back off when called to do so and especially if the cats had claws then she would be put in her place. Not knowing her past and after talking with the vet she just needs to be showered with attention but firmly let her know her boundries. She is up to date on her shots and heartworm preventative.

4/21/08 Pepper anne is available again for adoption . Her adopters did not wish to keep her because of her problems with demodex. The pictures of her are from two days ago. She has a beautiful coat of hair and very unnoticeable places with hair loss from demodex. This is a very nice dog needing a new home, perhaps with a vet in the family! Pepper Ann is under one y.o. and weighs 11lbs. She is heartworm neg. This young dog was found on the streets of Memphis. She was so matted that when taken to the vet we still did not know if the dog was male or female. Once shaved and bathed, it was discovered the dog had the worse case of demodex mange I have ever seen. Her face is swollen and raw. She is in foster care and is a happy sweet dog. She is on treatment and I will post her progress over time with new pics. We would like to see this dog recover and go into an adoptive home. If you can help by donating toward her vet care, please use the paypal button on my homepage and specifically mention her name. UPDATE 8/20/07 I have postednew pics of this amazing dog. We have also found out more about her short life. She was born to a dog with demodex and all the pups were treated and were doing well when this dog was placed in a home. Apparently when she started a recurrence of symptoms it was not treated. Pepper Ann is a SWEETHEART! She loves other dogs and is very agreeable with people. She is definitely on the mend.
