He was raised on a farm with his 6 other brothers and sisters. Just kept in a pen with not much handling. The farmer never could get them sold, so turned them into us. We have found everyone but Wilson a home. It is a shame as Wilson was the best one of the bunch, but he got straight hair and not curly hair which it seems is the rage these days. Betzy is just adorable. Her family was moving to a place where they could not keep her so she was taken to a local shelter at age 12. She is very quiet and very scared here now. She lies in a corner hoping someone will adopt her soon. She is housebroken, fine with all the dogs here although avoids them. Her owners wrote she is good with children but she is so scared here I don't think toddlers would be a good idea. She is spayed and utd on shots. I will be getting her a check up at my vets soon. Petey was purchased from a breeder by a friend of ours, with the intention of getting him into rescue where he could not be used for breeding. He is one of the so-called "designer" breeds - he is a pomapoo. Petey is about 10 months old and weighs about 9 pounds (as of 6/11/08). He won't get noticeably bigger.

Petey is a very high energy dog and exhibits both traits of the pomeranian and the poodle breeds. He is quite excitable and is barky like many pomeranians. Petey is very people and dog friendly. He loves to run and does not like to be crated...he will bark and whine when crated. Petey would probably appreciate having a home with another high energy dog where he could run and play in a large fenced yard.

Petey is up to date with vaccinations, heartworm negative, and is neutered. His adoption fee is $100.

Okay, stand back everyone. Have you seen anything as precious as this little guy!! His name is FitzPatrick but his Foster Mom calls him Paddy. He was rescued from a shelter when his time was up. Thanks to one of our volunteers, he got out before he was to be euthanized. Our little guy is a real clown. He jumps and walks on his hind legs like a circus dog. He is very playful with the other dogs in his foster home. He's so funny, he tries to hide toys from them! He is such a good little guy and likes to sit on your lap. He is very friendly with people and children. Paddy is six years old and weighs around 10 lbs. He will be neutered and brought up to date on his vaccines before his adoption. We are looking for a family that Paddy can be a part of and spend his life playing and enjoying himself. If there are children in the home, a fenced in yard is a requirement to keep everyone safe from harm. A vet check, phone interview and home visit is mandatory whenever adopting one of our rescued pets.

Three years old, eight pounds, the breeder says she is a Westie, but I think her nose is too long and narrow. She is small, thin and delicate boned. Her hair is silky soft.

Hannah is great little dog. Very friendly, happy, housetrained if you remember to take her out, she is a lovely girl with a tragic past. She was in a backyard kennel with a pack of larger Westies. Being so small, they wouldn't let her eat. She was attacked and injured. Her right ear is torn, she has a Harry Potter-like scar on her forehead and a little bit of damage to her lip on the right side. And still, she is beautiful.

She has no emotional scars from her ordeal. She loves people and other dogs. She is not afraid to speak her mind and tell other pups which lap is hers to sit on. She is very loving, bright, and spirited, a self possessed woman through and through. Information on her breeds is below.

Kirby was found by the dog warden wandering around a lonesome country road. He was timid, but happy to be picked up by gentle hands. Kirby was probably dunped there, probably by people who didn't want him, or couldn't keep him anymore. Who really knows why people do things like that? We are just glad we saw Kirby before his time ran out at the shelter. Kirby is very happy to be in a home, getting food each day and lots of time to play and snuggle. Kirby is very smart, and friendly. I do not suggest cats for any terrier breed, although he is young and may do fine. Kirby is about 30 lbs, and 5 months old. Late one night someone dumped several dogs on the side of 380 Rd in McKinney. Animal control caught 7 of them and were able to get them to safety. They could not determine if their were more, but at least these 7 were safe.

They were all in very bad shape. It was soon clear that a breeder had dumped them. The reason is still unclear because 6 of the 7 were very young. They were all matted w/ feces and urine to the point that their legs and undersides had to be shaved. The are very friendly when you approach their cage but when the door is opened they draw back to the corner. Again a sign that they were kept in breeding cages.

They are now free of gnarled hair and fleas (that once covered them head to toe). They are learning to trust people and will need homes that have the patience to help them feel safe and secure in a new home.

Lilac is approx 2 years old and is one of the most scared of the group. She is making leaps and bounds w/ the shelter workers, but she will need to go to a home that has the patience to teach her that not all people are mean.

ZZY, short for ISABELLE (SRC # 637 ) is a 2 year old Miniature Schnauzer/ Poodle Mix (Schnoodle) female that weighs approximately 12 lbs. Izzy came to SRC with five of her friends, after they had been living outside for an entire year. Their former owner died, and neighbors had been stopping by and feeding his dogs, which numbered over 30. Izzy has the body of a Poodle, but the coat of a Schnauzer, so her shedding is minimal, if any at all. She is a beautiful light salt and pepper color, with brown tips on her ears. Izzy is a sweet little girl, but she does not like men. She prefers women, so SRC would like to see her go to a home where she will be spoiled rotten by a woman. Izzy is a little fearful of strangers, and will growl sometimes until she gets to know them, but once she has cuddled with you, that's it. She will follow you all over the house, sleep in bed with you, and want to be in your lap at all times. Izzy hates to be in a crate, and she is working on her house training. UPDATE: 07-03-08 (from Izzy's foster Mom Izzy's personality is really starting to come out. She likes to look out the window and bark at the creatures that go by on the patio or on the streed. She definitely prefers women, and is very distrustful of men. The distrust may go away after a time in a forever home, but the man will have to be patient with her. She needs a home with a fenced in yard...I got her to walk on a leash by taking my dogs with me, but she would occasionally sit down on her butt and refuse to move. Baby talking her and going back to rub her on the head would get her started back up....She never would do her business on a walk...so she definitely needs to have a fenced in yard to run and She doesn't have to have a quiet household, as she has alot of puppy energy. She may do better in a home with girl children ages eight or older....she's too small and fragile for smaller children....plus at the moment I don't know how she will react to small children. Like a Schnauzer, she will pick her one human inside the household and be protective of that human...and jealous....she may do alright with another dog in the house as long as that dog doesn't try to take her spot with her human. She is a sweetheart of a girl, and will make a wonderful pet, she just needs to go to the perfect match. IZZY IS LOCATED NEAR MOUNT PLEASANT, NC.

Marcel had been on the streets for longer then we can imagine. When he was finally rescued, he was matted and filthy and the signs of neglect were enough to make us cry. At first we weren’t sure what he was, he looked like a little mop head. But once he was shaved down, he looked like a Schnauzer mixed with Poodle...a 'Schnoodle' as they are now referred to as. Marcel was so relieved to be out of the city kill shelter, that he spent the car ride snuggling on the lap of the volunteer who took him home that night. The next day he took a trip to the vet where blood work was done and he was given a full exam. He was wonderful. Because of neglect and a terrible diet, his teeth need a good cleaning and he's scheduled for a dentist appointment next week. He is such a good boy! His foster mom said he is a little sweetheart, following her everywhere and totally housebroken. He would make a wonderful companion dog for someone looking for a older (10 years old) and more mellow little gentleman. At 28 lbs. Marcel is the prefect size for a city apt dweller. Opal is a petite little thing that was born July 4, 1999 and weighs 13 lbs. She is a bit timid at first because she's been living in a cage at a puppy mill producing litter after litter to fill pet store shelves with "merchandise". It seems her productive days are over and so she was one of the lucky ones and was freed from her wire bottomed cage. It seems her main purpose in life now is to cuddle in someone's lap and soak up the loving and the heat. Her housetraining may take some effort as she's never known any difference. If you are up to a bit of work, and feel that her life is worth it, we'd love to here from you. The third picture is what she looked like when she came here. We included it so that you can see how curly she will become when a new, healthy coat of fur grows in. Each Joyful Rescues pet has been thrown away at least once. Pets are not disposable because your life has changed. Before you decide to bring a pet into your home, make absolutely sure that it will be a life time commitment. When our pets leave us we want them to go to their forever homes.
Joyful Rescues has no funding with the exception of our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. The fees for our puppies/dogs run $200-$350 and could be more for an extremely adoptable dog. For a senior or high maintenance dog (behavioral/medical issues) the fee will be more negotiable. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, a 4.5# bag of Science Diet food, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet. Personality I am a sweet dog who thinks everyone (human and four legged friends) was put on earth to play with me. I have lots of energy, but will just melt to the floor if you start petting me. What are the dog's favorite toys or things to do? I love chewing on my nylabone and having my tummy or ears rubbed. A real treat for me is being vacuumed. My mom uses the vacuum hose or the upholstery brush and I think that I am in heaven. I have a lot of energy and especially like walks or running around in my backyard. Although I've never tried it, I'd like to try to learn agility - I love the play tunnel that the kids in my family have, I am really quick and I jump over 4 foot fences! My forever home: My ideal forever home would be with an active family. I'd love to have kids to play with who aren't scared of my size or energy. Please don't make me stay outside all of the time either, my coat isn't real thick and I get cold. Socialization Does the dog like cats? Live with cats? Well, my foster mom doesn't have any cats, so I don't know how I would do with them. I would love to meet yours and see if we are a good match though! Does the dog like other dogs? I love to play with other dogs. I have a hard time relaxing when other young or energetic dogs are around, so I would probably do best as an only dog. Does the dog like kids? I love children! If I know that I will get my dinner, I will even wait for a 2 year old to fill my bowl one kibble at a time. I am really tolerant of children, but I sometimes forget how big and strong I am and knock over little ones. Should the dog be placed with other pets and/or kids? I have lived both as an only dogs and with other dogs. Although I love playing with other dogs, I don't like having to compete for attention and I have a hard time relaxing with another dog aroound. I don't want to miss anything! I would like it better if I were an only dog. Kids are great, especially a bit older. Training and Behavior Housebroken? Yes, I am housetrained (and have a bladder of steel)! Crate trained? I am crate trained. Has the dog had any training? When I was younger, I went to puppy kindergarten and then took basic obedience. I came really close to passing the Canine Good Citizen test, but that was awhile ago. I know the basic commands, but sometimes have a tough time focusing my attention. Does the dog escape the yard? Dig? Bark excessively? Anything else? I love to play in the yard, but I am a great jumper. I can clear a four foot fence, but do fine with a six foot one. I tend to bark at people walking on the sidewalk behind my house, but once they are gone, I am quiet. Does the dog ride well in the car? I love car rides! Is the dog food aggressive? I'm not food aggressive. Fearful of anything? I am fearful of mean dogs. I don't understand why they don't want to play. Health I am happy and healthy! TRAMP - young doodle boy being fostered in St Louis MO

Tramp is a golden male doodle. We do not know for sure what he is because he was pulled from a kill shelter. He is over a year old and he weighs 55 pounds. He is housebroken and crate trained. He is doing well walking on a leash.

He's been going for runs with his foster parents and doing great. He loves to run around the yard and chase tennis balls and Frisbees. He seems to be eager to please and if you tell him not to do something he will listen.

Tramp does have some behaviors that need retraining.

He is not guarding his food you can put your hand in his food dish while he is eating and he does not get upset. He does well riding in cars and he likes to stick his head out the window. He seems to be warming up to other dogs although on several occasions he has lunged at other dogs so he needs a bit more practice at playing nice with the other dogs.

Tramp will be a great companion for someone who will give him a bit of training and some lessons in manners. We would like him to have a fenced yard and an active lifestyle.

Cosby, a male bichon/mix was most likely born in December 2006. He is a special needs dog who should be in a home with a calm dog and children over the age of 10.

He has gained weight and has shown marked improvement during this time in his recovery from being dipped in a large-animal chemical mixture for flea/tic removal. He has filled out and has a very nice coat. He is much less nervous and much more trusting. He still has a tic or tremor (about half of what it was a year ago). His teeth were extracted because they had no roots.

Cosby enjoys food and treats and loves to play with toys or other dogs. He is quite striking with jet black hair and eyes and long legs. He has an exceptionally sweet personality and is eager to please. He is mostly housetrained but still needs a belly band inside for times when he gets overly excited. He is very loving and craves attention. He walks on a leash and responds to simple commands.

Snow Belle, or Belle as we call her, was rescued from a kill shelter. She is a Bichon/Poodle Mix,born sometime in March of 2007. She had to be shaved as her hair was badly matted. Snow Belle currently weighs approximately 7 pounds but needs to gain weight.

Belle loves everyone, especially kids! She simply cannot stay away from them if they are in her reach. She will sit with Gary, our 9 yr old, in his playroom for hours and follow him all around the place. She gets along really well with our other dogs and is bending over backwards to make friends with Ruby, our big red mix who is the alpha dog of the pack.

Her housebreaking is coming along quite well. She has an occasional accident but for the most part goes outside. She doesn't let us know she needs to go. You do need to give her plenty of time outside, as she gets distracted by everything!

SnowBelle walks very well on a lead and harness. She has been trained to walk on the left. Belle has a ball in the fenced back yard exploring every little nook and cranny and chasing squirrels up the trees! She thinks the Monkey Grass was grown just for her to play in and she leaps around in it like a little deer! She has shown no tendency to dig or root up plants, but nothing escapes her attention. She will need a home with a fenced yard.

Belle will make a wonderful pet. She loves to be held and is always right at your feet. Her bouncy spirit sends her flying around at times and she's not the least bit concerned about leaping right at you in mid-flight!

This little guy will steal your heart. He has SUCH a sweet face and the most loving expression - probably from what we believe is a Bichon mix! He has the most beautiful, expressive little black button eyes like the bichons. He came to ASDR completely matted, frightened, and a total mess. AFter a nice spa treatment and a lot of love and good food he has become a wonderful little guy. He does bark at people he doesn't know who come into his house but certainly shows no signs of aggression of any kind. He gets along very well with other dogs and pays no attention to cats. He has not really been around children except at adoption events but seemed to like them quite well and was very tolerant of their erratic behaviour :)).

The amish man remembered the ladies of rescue and called them. He told them that he knew that they would do something with us and that is what they are doing. They bathed me, kissed me, fed me and gave me a warm bed. Friday I will go to the doctor for the first time. I am almost 4 months old. I am a little boy. I already love to run and frolic. Yesterday I had the chance to run in a yard for the first time in my life. That is the best feeling well, next to being held. I am cute as a button and actually my hair is curlier but one of the ladies overbrushed me so right now my hair looks straight as an arrow. I am ready to find my own family. Carina has been groomed since the photos were taken and had all of her mats cut out! We will have new pictures soon. Carina is about 6-7 years old. This adorable little girl was surrendered because her owner was diagnosed with cancer and is no longer able to care for her. Carina was being kept outside on the porch recently due to the fact that her owner has been feeling very ill. She mostly resembles a Long Hair Chihuahua, but her wavy fur and the texture of it makes us believe she may be mixed with a touch of Poodle. She is extremely sweet and loves attention! She will follow you everywhere and enjoys lap-sitting very much. She has a spunky, lively personality and her teeth are in great condition (she has never had a dental). She has had several litters of puppies, but those days are over now and she would love to have a home where someone is around most of the time to give her a ton of love. She is great when meeting new people and does not have the typical "yappy and snappy" personality of a Chi. She would do best in a calm household with no young kids and no young and/or large dogs. Carina weighs about 7 pounds. Adoption fee is $200 and includes spay, vaccinations, de-worming and flea treatment.

Miki (pronounced Mee-kee that means little in eskimo), is a great mix of... something! We c an definitely see the poodle in her fur, the cocker spaniel in her face, and who knows what else! When we picked up from the e-list at the pound, they actually thought she was a terrier! Once we had her shaved down completely, we discovered no terrier in there! Miki was on the euthanasia list because she flunked the behavior/temperment test as she was very shy. She was covered in filth, matted all the way through her fur, covered in bugs, and extremely sunburnt. Well this little dunce is proving their temperment test wrong! She is ALL about people and love.. She has her adult teeth grown in but she acts very much like a puppy, we think she may be under a year old but its very difficult to tell. Her beautiful fur is starting to grow back in just now and soon she will be beautiful on the outside as much as she is on the inside. She is not kennel trained and sleeps in bed with us. She has run of a bedroom when we are not home, and is still figuring out that potty pads are for potty-ing instead of eating (you will need to work with her, she could definitely benefit from a doggie door). She needs to be kept iside under her sunburn heals completely though. She thinks she's a big dog and is still working on her manners with big dogs. She is definitely a lap dog, and luckily she's small enough and light enough to be one! She shouldn't get much bigger and she's very light-weight. She likes little dogs and LOVES cats, she would love to go to a home with playful cats or kittens! She is great with kids who loves dogs. She'd love to go to a family or someone who has lots and lots of time to take her places! She's a great size for traveling!

Hi my name is Opie. I am 2 years old and 16lbs. Let me tell you about myself. I am so sweet and affectionate with my family. I love a good nap in your lap, I love to give kisses. I love other dogs, I like to chase cats :-). I am house trained and crate trained. I do not do well with children, they move about so fast that it makes me crazy. I really need an all adult home. I do not do well with strangers coming to my house but I'm working on that. I need someone who is willing to keep training me. My training is not difficult I simply need to stay on a leash and seated until I'm comfortable with new people. Once everyone is settled and things are calm I'm ok. I am so funny. My favorite time of day is when everyone is done with their showers. I pull the towel down and roll and roll all over it. Every once in a while I get to sleep in the bed with my foster parents and I like that. My foster mom says I'm a bed hog but that's just because I like to sleep right next to someone. I am a very smart boy despite my overly blond appearance. I would do well with someone who has the time and patience to keep working with me so I can be a wonderful dog with everyone. SPECIAL NEEDs - I will need a special home because I have food allergies. All I need is special food and some medication so it's not really expensive or complicated. I eat Duck & Potato dog food that is available at the petstore and get a special oral steroid for my tummy. My steriod is $25 for a 90 day period. This poor little guy was found as a stray in horrible condition. He was horribly matted and covered in dirt, his teeth are so terribly infected that it has actually caused holes in the side of his little cheek. We have sent him to the vet and they did an amazing job cleaning him up and now he looks like the little prince he should! He is estimated to be around 8 yrs old and he will have his dental and be fully vetted before going home. After everything he has been through including all the pain he must be in from his teeth, he is still the SWEETEST little boy and will actually stand on his hind two feet and dance for attention! Snoopy is a male 6-7 yr old maltipoo. He is a very sweet, calm, gentle boy who used to belong to a senior who could no longer care for him. He is 10 lbs and is non-shedding. He likes other dogs and to play with a tennis ball. Snoopy is shy at first when meeting strangers, but completely non-agressive. This is a really easy dog, but he would like for someone to be home most of the time as he has lost 2 owners already.
Snoopy has a mild heart murmur, nothing that you have to do anything with, just something to be aware of.

Hey there! It's me Nala. I was named that because when I went tto the groomer, they gave me a lion haircut. My legs were SO matted--down to the skin, but my body wasn't too bad, so they saved as much hair as they could. I was so scared in the shelter, I tried to bite people! Now that I have a new hairdo, I have a new lease on life so I am looking for a new home.
I have OODLES of personality! I am spunky, love my toys, love to cuddle, go for walks, and sleep right next to my foster mom in bed.

Although I prefer to highlight my positive qualities, I should tell you about my quirks. I would never be able to make it as a tooth model. Although I had a complete dental--and Dr. Hunt scrubbed my teeth as hard as he could--my bottom teeth are still yellow. Oh, and in case you couldn't tell--I have an underbite. Although I am sweet and playful, I don't like people I don't know grabbing me, sticking their fingers in my mouth, and poking at me. I went to adoptions and these little old ladies were picking me up and fussing with me, so I bit them. Not hard, but if I don't know you--please don't pick up my tail and flip me on my back. Keep in mind, I have never tried to bite my foster mom--I let her scratch my tummy and pick me up, and once comfortable in my home I am a perfect angel. But, I have an ever so slight amount of the peke attitude (my mom calls it a pekatude) that I can't go to just anyone.
I do okay with the other dogs, but can be bossy. I also like to chase the cats--if they run. There is an old cat here--he doesn't run because he is slow--so I think he's boring and I will move on to the kittens.
My foster mom says my ideal home is one who has had toy poodles before, maybe a single lady who wants me as her only princess.

PPP: Nicholas went to Prissy Pampered Pups this week to be bathed and groomed. He came in as a stray and was quite dirty and matted up. He also likes chasing balls, playing with water and playing fetch. While he likes to play, Tenosh is a fairly low-key fellow. We think he may have been mistreated, but that hasn’t dampened his desire for love and attention. Please consider this beautiful puppy! The dogs were rescued from puppy mills in NE and MO and transported to Phoenix. They will all need to be health checked and neutered before placing. They will also need some down time to get use to people loving on them, grass to play in and four legged friends to play with. They do best when placed with another dog who is outgoing so they can learn how to cope with the world. Within twelve hours they were starting to wag their tails and wanting to be petted. If Jonasch had been euthanized at the pound, it would have been a tragedy, because Jonasch is a completely ADORABLE dog - a perfect family companion dog.

Jonasch is adorable in appearance, but personality is what truly "makes" Jonasch. Photographs do not do him justice. You must meet him in person to truly appreciate his cuteness and personality. Jonasch has an especially adorable little face with very expressive eyes. He is playful and fun-loving and loves his toys. He will run all over the yard with a big toy in his mouth, hoping someone will come chase him and try to "steal" his toy.

Jonasch loves to roll around with you in play and he also loves to cuddle. He's a very sweet and affectionate dog! Jonasch is great with other dogs, too. He is also housebroken. Jonasch will make a wonderful family companion and a great playmate for children.

Meet Gerbil! He was brought to us by his family who were moving and could not take him. That makes him and them sad, but this happy little guy will easily bond again. They indicated he is a Peekapoo/Rat Terrier mix and is 1 and 1/2 yrs old (as of 10/20). He was kept inside and is housetrained. The family said he loves kids and plays okay with cats. He is absolute adorable - just cute, cute, cute! He weighs about 12 lbs. He is a calm and well behaved dog. He is affectionate and adores attention. He likes going for walks and does okay on the leash. We can easily take food from him and he nicely takes treats. He is also tolerant and did just find with his temperament test. He did not live with other dogs and we have not put him with any other dogs at the shelter yet. If you have another dog and are interested in Gerbil, we can certainly see how he will do. This little guy is sure to please you and bring you plenty of love.

Are you ready for the ride of your life? Are you looking for a high energy dog to take to the dog park and go on walks and jogs with? Then Payton is YOUR man.

This little bundle of energy is a HOOT! He will keep you laughing with his puppy antics and also keep you on your toes with his never ending drive to play and just be a dog. As soon as he pulls one of his mischevious little pranks, your first instinct is to be irritated with him and then he gives you that Clueless, innocent look that makes you want to melt. Who could stay mad at this little man??

He is GREAT with other dogs and would probably do better in a home where he has a playmate. He likes to annoy the cats, but in a playful way. He is really just very curious about them. Payton does not have a mean bone in his body. He would fit in anywhere. Just beware that when he wants to play with you or another dog or cat, he will bark until he gets what he wants or until you send him to his crate for bedtime. Once in his crate, he will settle in and relax.

He is just under a year old, weighs only 11 pounds and stands 15 inches at his shoulders. Since he is so young, he is eager to learn right and wrong and please his companion. He has already mastered sit and stay via treat training and he will keep his attention on you, even with other dogs buzzing all around. This little guy would be a great fit for someone who is wanting to get out and exercise more.....He's our own little Canine Castaways Work Out Plan.

He came to us in pretty rough shape - covered in fleas, lots of skin irritation, neglected toenails, patches of hair missing, covered in mats, and an ear infection. Once we got Gizmo a bath and some medical treatment he perked right up and now is just adoreable! I've been to the vet and had a surgery on my leg...now I have a metal plate in my leg and can set off alarms at the airport! I'm already walking fine on my leg, just no running yet, but before you know it, I'll be racing around and 100%. I'm already anxious now to play with my foster brothers and sisters, but for the moment I am content to sit on my foster parent's lap and just cuddle and kiss. I'm a sweet and loving boy, and I'm 3 years old and healthy....and almost ready for my forever home. Juliette is a sweet little 4-5 yr old, 8 lb Chinese Crested Powder Puff & Toy Poodle mix (at least that's our best guess!). She is not the hairless variety of Chinese Crested. She is all black and has hair everywhere, but it is short on her ears and tail. It's cute and makes her look like a little baby lamb. Her hair was very matted when we got her, so it had to be cut short to eliminate the mats, but it looks great now. And she was a perfect angel when she was getting groomed. She is gaining much needed weight at Linda's fat dog hotel with the help of good nutrition and lots of exercise.

Juliette craves being cuddled and loved, and wants to be the queen bee. She would do best in a home with no other dogs and no cats. She is very protective of her human and wants all of the attention for herself (as all divas do).

She tells me she has to go potty by walking over to the door and waiting, coming back to me, and then walking back to the door. I just open the door; she runs out, poops and pees, and runs back in. How cool is that!! Or if I put the leash on her, it is a cue that we are going for a walk to potty.

She is content to sleep in her crate at night, and sometimes goes to her crate during the day when she just needs a break.

Juliette loves to go for walks, but needs some leash training as she pulls if you leave the leash loose. If you use a short leash to the right side, she walks properly. She needs to be reminded that you are the boss and not her. She is very cute, very sweet, and will be a great companion for someone who will love her, walk her, and hug her every day.

JULIETTE IS ELIGIBLE FOR OUR 5/50 PROGRAM -- if you are 50 or over, you may adopt a dog who is 5 or over at the special rate of $125 (50% off).

UPDATE: Juliette was previously adopted by a senior who lives in a senior housing apartment complex. Because Juliette loved her so much, she was 'overly' protective and charged other dogs and people living in the senior complex, whom she deemed threatening. She has never bitten anyone.

Juliette needs someone who will be home with her and give her the attention she deserves. She is very sweet and loving, but she also needs someone who will gently show her that she is not the "alpha" of the house, a role she is all too willing to assume if you let her.

Dusty came from Tucson, and had been sitting at the pound a while. He came with a few scraps and bruises but didn't know where they came from! (foster mom asked but Dusty just wasn't sure). He's a very long-legged dog but still very easy to pick up. He walks well on a leash and is working on potty training. He is super friendly to everyone he meets, cats, dogs, everyone! He wants nothing more then to sit in your lap as much as possible! He will need regular grooming as any poodle or bichon and has the cutest face when you talk to him. Gianni was abandoned at a rural shelter. We're not sure why - he's a GREAT little dog. He's looking good now, but was matted and dirty when he arrived. The information available at the shelter was that he is 1.5 years old, housetrained, and is a shih tzu/poodle mix. He IS young and IS housetrained, but I think he's a Maltese. He adores children and would be fine in a household with children who are old enough to be careful with him, since all small dogs are somewhat fragile.

Gianni deserves to be an indoor dog and to live with a responsible and caring person or family. We require an approved adoption application and we normally ask potential adopters to visit once before the adoption is approved. We also reserve the right to make a home inspection. Gianni is VERY SPECIAL and will stay here until the right match comes along. If you would like to arrange to meet him or if you have additional questions, please email or call us. Gianni will be neutered and fully vetted before adoption. He is free of all parasites and is on monthly heartworm prevention. Ned is an adorable sixteen pound CockaPoo and what a terrific pooch he is. Born on December 29, 2005, he is just a youngster. This baby doll is soooo sweet, lovable, hugable, easy going, gentle, kind, and a pretty smart fella too. Don't want to forget to mention again, just how very handsome he is!!! Seems like this precious baby has had a pretty hard time so far in his short life. He all of the sudden woke up one morning and found himself sitting in a cage at one of the local animal control shelters. Scared just about to death, he had no idea what he had done to deserve this awful prize. Thank goodness we got him out of of that awful place, and JUST in the nick of time. He is such a fabulous little guy and surely deserves a WHOLE LOT BETTER THAN THAT!!!!! Which he will positively get in his next home. What he has asked for in his next home, is a signed affidavit that this will be his permanent home where someone will always love him, hug him, cuddle with, snooze with him, and love him for the rest of his life. My story begins as being lost and wandering the busy streets of Austin. A nice lady was having car trouble and I was worried about her. I approached her to make sure she was ok by touching my paw to her leg. Turned out she was ok and she came back looking for me to make sure I was alright. She cleaned me up and gave me a comfortable place to stay for the night and then I was brought to the local shelter in hopes of being reunited with my owner. Everyday I patiently watched and waited, but they did not come for me. Remember the nice lady I was telling you about, well she contacted safe haven animal rescue to see if they could rescue me if I did not have a home to go to as the shelter was overcrowded and my time was limited. Well I am happy to say I am with Safe Haven and doing well. I am enjoying being part of a family with lots of dog friends and people friends. My foster mom says I am the best napping buddy ever. I am learning my house manners and am doing very well. I am learning to play fetch, love to catch a Frisbee or a ball but not real good at bringing it back. I love car rides and learning how to walk on a leash. Unfortunately, I have tested positive for Heartworms and will start my treatments soon. If only my previous owners gave me heartworm prevention, I would not have to be going through treatments that are expensive and make me feel yucky. Meet Maggie Mae...A sweet Labradoodle/Bearded Collie mix breed dog. Maggie is approx. 6 yrs old and around 65 lbs. Her coat is wirey and therefore sheds very minimally.

Maggie is looking for a new home to call her own. She was adopted one year ago, but her family decided to return her to Shelter to Home this week as she was too much to handle with their small children. Maggie knows basic commands, is 100% housetrained, is crate trained and gets along with other animals (cats and dogs). Maggie is around 6 yrs old and already spayed. She will be vaccinated and re-tested for heartworm this coming week. Maggie's required adoption donation is $175.

Maggie is looking for a home where someone will work with her further on her obedience training as it appears that in the past year she has become very unfamiliar with the leash. While in foster care, her foster family will continue to work with her on not pulling her new family down the street while on walks.

Chip is a very sweet, handsome boy. He is about a year old and was dumped in a shelter by his family. He is a Lab/Standard Poodle mix--apparently all the rage at the present time. Chip's breed mix did not save him, however, and he was pulled from the shelter at the last moment. Chip acts like a Lab--very friendly, loves to fetch, and likes to snuggle. He has the coat of a poodle--non-shedding, but does not mat or need trimming, just regular brushing. He likes other dogs and would be a good choice for someone looking for a first dog.
